PEGGY HOUGH IS A LICENSED CLINICAL PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR (LCPC)
SHE SPECIALIZES IN THE TREATMENT OF TRAUMA & ADDICTIVE DISORDERS
Clinical Expertise
Peggy Hough has a unique approach which brings together the various threads of her clinical heritage. Her training in diverse modalities, and her work and experiences with pioneers in their respective fields, has primarily been with those who have forged new paths in the treatment of trauma and/or addictive disorders, including Pia Mellody, Peter Levine, Stephen Porges & Deb Dana.
Post-Induction Therapy
Early in her career Peggy studied with renowned addiction expert and pioneer in this field, Pia Mellody. Peggy is certified as a PIT Therapist (Post Induction Therapy). The premise of PIT is that childhood trauma is the origin of developmental immaturity also known as codependency.
Somatic Experiencing
Peggy also completed the formative three-year Somatic Experiencing Professional Training Program based on Peter Levine’s groundbreaking research on the treatment of trauma. This is particularly compatible with her current focus on trauma, embodiment and working with the nervous system through a Polyvagal lens
Polyvagal Theory
Polyvagal Theory was developed by Dr. Stephen Porges. The theory links the evolution of the mammalian autonomic nervous system to social behavior and emphasizes the importance of physiological state in the expression of behavioral problems and psychiatric disorders. In short, Polyvagal Theory is the science of safety. Polyvagal Theory reduces the “shame and blame” components of most disorders by helping both clinicians and clients understand that behaviors are autonomic actions in the service of survival, i.e., adaptive habitual responses rooted in a survival narrative that is entered into automatically.
Polyvagal Informed Therapy
Over the last six years Peggy has studied Polyvagal Theory in depth, working extensively with Deb Dana, and is now a leading expert as a Polyvagal-Informed therapist. She is a Senior Trainer for Deb Dana’s Rhythm of Regulation methodology, and the flagship ‘Foundations of Polyvagal Informed Practice’ six-month clinical training. As someone passionate about bringing the application of Polyvagal Theory to a variety of situations and disciplines, Peggy is looking forward to offering new learning experiences for clinicians, practitioners, business facilitators and leaders in all fields. She remains available through client sessions and specifically tailored offerings for curious people across the board who simply want to improve and enhance their lives!
Neuro Linguistic Programming
Peggy is also a NLP Master’s Level Clinician: Neuro Linguistic Programming is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy ~ the basis of which asserts a connection between the neurological processes, language, and the behavioral patterns learned through experience that can be changed to achieve goals.
Imago Therapy
Much of the therapeutic work Peggy continues to undertake with couples and families benefits from her grounding and early training in Imago Relationship Therapy. This is a modality which is centered on relational counselling, first introduced to the world by Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt.
Evolution & Growth
Drawing from her own recovery, education, spiritual journey, and the wisdom of her many beloved mentors, Peggy’s goal has consistently been to help individuals, couples, families, groups, communities and organizations identify and build on their own strengths to achieve their personal and collective goals.
